Understanding the different components of a boiler

A boiler is magnificent and very important equipment for the facility where it is installed. It is important to know how to operate the boiler properly and keep its health optimum so that it could serve you for a long time. There are many components that you need to have knowledge of, so that you could keep them healthy and working. Let us see the different components of a boiler installed on it.

Boiler feed pumpsBoiler feed pumps

A boiler feed pump is responsible for feeding water to the boiler tubes or shells. It is necessary to maintain a certain level of water in the boiler to be safe. If the level of water falls below the safe level, it may cause the boiler shell or tubes to crack. For that reason, you must have a boiler feed pump in spare so that it could replace the feed pump installed on the boiler in case of any defect or break down.

Gauges and meters

There are different gauges installed on the boiler such as water level indicator, pressure gauge and thermometer, which are necessary to determine the values of the different working factors at a given time. In the absence of these gauges, it would be very difficult to keep these working factors under safe level. It is important to keep the gauges installed on a boiler working so that the operator of the boiler could keep the boiler working under safe limits.

Boiler tubes

Boiler tubes

Boiler tubes are responsible for the transfer of the fluids and heat throughout the boiler. If the tubes of a boiler are not healthy and perfect, the boiler cannot deliver its best performance. It is important to keep the boiler tubes healthy and perfectly working for best efficiency of the equipment. The tubes must be cleaned regularly with help of tube cleaners to keep the tubes free from any types of sludge and dirt. If a tube is defected, it needs to be flared so that a new tube could be inserted in it to restore its working. An electric tube expansion system would be best for doing that as it can expand the diameter of the tube without much problem and without causing any damage to the tube.

Exhaust fan

The exhaust fan of a boiler is the component, which sucks the hot air and smoke out of the boiler. Boiler cannot work at all if the exhaust fan of the boiler is not working properly. It is necessary to check the exhaust fan regularly to make sure that it is working in an efficient manner.

The chimney

It is the part of the boiler, which keeps the surrounding area of the boiler smoke free as it takes the smoke far from the working area of the boiler. You must make sure that the chimney of the boiler is high enough to take the smoke to the environment. Also, the chimney must have carbon filters so that the pollution done by the boiler could be minimized.
